QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum qualifications include PhD, DrPH, or ScD in epidemiology or a closely related field, or a DVM/VMD with an MPH from an accredited school of public health and post-doctoral research training and experience in epidemiology at the time the appointment begins. The candidate selected for this position must be able to meet eligibility requirements to work in the United States at the time of appointment is scheduled to begin and continue working legally for the proposed term of employment.
Desired qualifications include a record of scholarship, excellence in didactic classroom or small group instruction, and excellent written and interpersonal communication skills. Expertise in biostatistics and/or bioinformatics is also desirable.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The successful candidate will assume the following responsibilities: 1) veterinary professional, graduate and undergraduate level instruction in epidemiology; 2) develop competitive and productive independent and collaborative research in epidemiology, by serving as principal investigator for research and scholarly activities related to distribution and determinants of disease, for improvement of animal and human health; any research emphasis within epidemiology will be considered. 3) mentor graduate students in epidemiology and related disciplines, as a graduate faculty member in Biomedical Sciences Graduate Program of the College of Veterinary Medicine, and 4) collaborate with other faculty in the College of Veterinary Medicine by advising on matters involving statistical and/or bioinformatics analysis.
RESEARCH ENVIRONMENT: Departmental research programs exist in aquatic pathobiology, molecular virology and bacteriology, molecular diagnostics, food safety, pathogen detection, basic and applied immunology, parasitology, platelet pathophysiology, molecular genetics, metabolic diseases oncology, infectious diseases, embryo-pathogen interactions, poultry pathology and neuropathology. Additional programs exist with opportunities for collaboration within the College of Veterinary Medicine (including basic and clinical sciences), and with faculty from across Auburn University (including the Samuel Ginn College of Engineering, College of Science and Mathematics, and Harrison School of Pharmacy). University core facilities support advanced microscopy and imaging, laser microdissection, multispectral imaging, magnetic resonance imaging, and flow cytometry-FACS. In addition, through institutional collaboration with the HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology, a full array of genomic sequencing and functional genomic technologies is available.
